Hublot’s collaboration with Italia Independent has produced breakout designs, such as this tartan-styled chronograph
by Caleigh Ostrom
For the third time since 2014, a partnership between Hublot and Italia Independent is offering we timepiece design aficionados
something to moon over. In the wake of their most recent collaborative effort, the Big Bang Unico model, we now have the Classic Fusion Italia Independent collection.
Italia Independent’s founder, Lapo Elkann, is renowned for eccentric style and glamour. In addition, he pioneered Ferrari’s Tailor Made program and began another company, Garage Italia Customs, which specializes in customization and personalization of cars, planes, boats, and helicopters.
With his love for extravagance and Hublot’s watchmaking expertise, the partners looked to the famed House of Rubinacci for fabric inspiration. Over 180,000 square feet of fabric—including precious houndstooth, tweed, and tartan, all inspired by the seventies—
were among the materials selected to create straps and dials for the resulting Classic Fusion Chronograph. Luca Rubinacci himself chose the fabrics with Elkann’s style in mind, selecting a vibrant tartan with a sporty tone and traditional houndstooth in black and
white (the colors of his favorite team, Juventus F.C.)
The case is 45mm and available in titanium, ceramic, and King Gold, with a HUB1143 calibre movement. Featured here is a polished black ceramic design, with a satin-finish and a Prince of Wales pattern on the dial and strap.
