THE ACCLAIMED ITALIAN HOUSE LORO PIANA DEBUTS A LINE THAT MAKES DRESSING TO IMPRESS EFFORTLESS

BY MATT MIZRACH

Originating from Renaissance courtier, diplomat, soldier, and author Baldassare Castiglione’s guide to etiquette and behavior entitled e Book of the Courtier, the Italian word sprezzatura was interpreted by its author to mean “a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without e ort and almost without any thought.” In time, the term came to embrace any sophisticated presentation that appeared to be nonchalant a phrase that encapsulates the fashion house of Loro Piana as ably as any we’ve heard or read.

Established in 1924, but with roots in the textile industry of the 19th century, the Quarona, Italy based Company is an internationally recognized manufacturer of fine clothing, and specializes in wool and cashmere pieces that focus on luxurious comfort.

Featured here is a hooded puffer vest made from a wool, silk, and linen blend its wine red hood contrasting perfectly against the dark blue exterior. The second is Piana’s take on the classic sports coat. Double breasted, and made from the same wool/silk/linen blend, it is exceptionally lightweight, with a relaxed feel that keeps wearers cool, calm, and collected sartorially perfect but without braggadocio, just as Castiglione would have wanted.
