LOOKING TO UPGRADE? THE NEWLY RELEASED IPHONE 14 PRO AND APPLE WATCH ULTRA COULD BE JUST THE FALL REFRESHERS YOU’VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR

BY MATTHEW MIZRACH

Every fall, technophiles and smartphone enthusiasts tune in to Apple’s annual keynote, eagerly awaiting the tech giant’s newest slate of product launches. is year’s “Far Out” event also marked a special occasion: it was hosted live from Cupertino for the first time since 2019. And while the Silicon Valley behemoth didn’t exactly “reinvent the wheel” with its 2022 lineup of hardware, devices like the iPhone 14 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra instead represent the brand’s singular focus on perfecting their most beloved products, while still offering an experience that feels unique and fresh.

The Apple Watch Ultra, for example, doesn’t look all that different from past years’ models. A peek under the hood, however, reveals an uncompromisingly rugged health tool designed speci cally for adventurers and athletes. The watch features an impossibly lightweight 49-millimeter titanium case, next-level durability, upgraded GPS and tracking services, superior water resistance, a host of built-in health and fitness tracking apps, and a battery that lasts up to 60 glorious hours. The Ultra is a superior smart watch that can also double as a dive computer.

The iPhone 14 Pro is easily Apple’s most accessible smartphone to date, offering a few key new features and must-have options, all for a (relatively) affordable price. Available in 6.1-inch or 6.7-inch display sizes, the Pro is powered by the new A16 bionic smartphone chip, which, along with an innovative 48MP camera, provides lightning quick speeds. Apple also ditched the highly controversial “eyebrow” display for the new Dynamic Island a highly interactive pill-shaped display that can change in size and shape in order to deliver notifications and allow you to interact with apps. Cinematic video mode now shoots in 4K HDR at 24fps, putting the power of a Hollywood quality recording device inside your pocket. With all of these features and more, the Pro and Pro Max come in at a digestible $999 and $1,099 respectively, making them a truly tempting upgrade for those looking for a change. It looks like Christmas came early this year, folks.
