The Savor Lounge marks ten years in Seaside heights… and the entire Jersey Shore is thirsty to celebrate

by Charlotte defazio

Savor Lounge is approaching its ten year anniversary celebration. The DeRosa family opened the business in 2005 as Luna Derosa, until undergoing renovations and reopening as the Savor Lounge in late May of 2013. It sits in a prime location on Seaside’s busy Boulevard, which remains full of stumblers at night and bathing suits in summer.

During Seaside’s offseason, the lounge is open Friday through Sunday and features a variety of live music performances. The James Thomas Martin Mix comes out to DJ on Fridays while the Moonshine Jazz Trio can be seen on Saturdays. General Manager and co-owner Nick DeRosa said the show on Sundays is most popular—crooner Gerard Esposito singing in the style of Frank Sinatra.

Happy Hour on select food and drinks is available from 4-6 p.m. A wide selection of beer and wine catering to any price includes $5 giant mason jars of sangria on Saturdays. The house cocktails are principally for those with a sweet tooth and/or newbie drinkers.

The restaurant decor is as diverse as its menu. Pizzeria-style tables and chairs welcome the menu’s pasta dishes, rice balls, and Neapolitan pizza. Hightop tables and stools near the bar are an ideal seating for the handheld food available—including burgers and chicken wings. Chandeliers and cozy horseshoe booths are for those seeking a fine-dining experience with the ordering of roasted rack of lamb, New York strip steak, or Spanish salmon. Savor used to serve sushi, which was loved by patrons, but it became too difficult to maintain (DeRosa said they are working on bringing sushi back to the menu or occasionally offering it as a special).

A large outdoor bar and patio faces the street for people watching and at times hosts live music. Savor is versatile enough to spend an entire night at or to pre-game at before heading next door to Club Karma. (It actually teams up with Karma, and often allows people purchasing a meal at the lounge to head next door to the club with no cover charge). DeRosa said, “It’s great to see the same customers from ten years ago. They’re like family now.” In this revolving door industry with the constant closing of restaurants, the lounge’s ten year anniversary is a notable feat.
