The guiding philosophy powering the offices of Fountain of Youth Rx is the simple and penetrating notion that looking good can actually make one feel physically better. The name behind the practice and that outlook is Dr. David P. Suarez, who graduated from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Chicago.
A graduate of General Surgery Residency Training at New York’s Peninsula Hospital, Suarez had an early interest in health and fitness. At ten years old, he was toning up via his 110 pound weight set from Sears. Later, he became a high school athlete, a semi-professional football player, and a certified personal trainer. The first in his family to become a physician, he believed in the importance of keeping the mind, body, and spirit working together as a single unit.
Suarez, medical director, cosmetic surgeon, and wellness specialist, and the brain behind Fountain of Youth Rx, completed cosmetic surgery fellowship training with Dr. Robert F. Jackson—a board-certified cosmetic surgeon for more than 30 years. “During my general surgery residency, I participated in all types of surgery. I always enjoyed the tedious types of surgeries especially plastic and vascular surgery,” he revealed. “At first I accepted a vascular surgery fellowship, but eventually realized I’d rather not help sick patients become healthy, but help healthy patients become healthier.”
Fusing the “art and science” of aesthetic surgery, Suarez offers a variety of youth-preserving techniques and treatments at his practice. He has an IAPAM certification in Medical Weight Management, and additional training in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement (BHR) and Pain Management. Key areas of focus include aesthetics (Botox, laser hair removal, and more), facials and chemical peels, health and wellness (such as BHR and hCG Weight Loss), breast augmentation, and pain management.
Prior to debuting the Staten Island office, Suarez opened a practice in Tarrytown. It was an expanding sleeve of referrals from family and friends that lured him back to his island hometown, however. “I want to educate and encourage my patients to receive the appropriate treatment to optimize their health, as well as their physical and emotional well being,” said Suarez. Among the most popular offerings are weight loss, cosmetic surgery, and BHR—the term “bioidentical” within the acronym referring to the use of hormones that are identical in molecular structure to the hormones produced by the body.
“As we age, our bodies start decreasing the amount of hormones they produce. We use natural and plant-derived hormones that are identical to the hormones the body creates,” the doctor explained. Beyond increasing vitality, he added, the treatment can prevent strokes, cardiovascular disease, and even Alzheimer’s.
Another popular program at Fountain of Youth Rx is hCG Weight Loss. (“I consistently receive referrals from patients who have achieved amazing results,” Suarez mentioned). The technique combines administered human chorionic gonadotropin, along with a low-calorie diet. Suarez reports that 95% of his patients maintain their weight loss after the program.
IV Therapy and Smartlipo will soon be added to Fountain of Youth Rx’s list of services and treatments. Also known as Intravenous Therapy, the former may be used to correct electrolyte imbalances, to deliver medications, for blood transfusion, or as fluid replacement to “correct,” as is the case with dehydration.
“With IV Therapy, I evaluate the patient’s micro and macro nutrients and symptoms, and replace everything the patient is deficient in,” explained Suarez. “Smartlipo uses lasers specifically made to burn fat away. The fat then liquifies. People try so hard to lose weight and there’s often nothing they can do to lose those last few pounds, so this really helps patients achieve those results.”
Although the doctor is trained in various areas of cosmetic surgery, he enjoys breast augmentation and liposuction the most. “Most women who want breast augmentation have lived their lives with low self-esteem. It’s something they’ve carried with them since they were much younger,” he explained. “After undergoing this surgery, women feel more confident and beautiful. It’s actually transformative.”
Suarez added that the most rewarding aspect of his job is the ability to make just that type of difference. “The best part is hearing a patient say, ‘Thank you for changing my life!’” he smiled.
