FAMED DUTCH DESIGNER MARCEL WANDERS REIMAGINES LOUIS VUITTON’S ICONIC STAR MONOGRAM MOTIF IN AN INTRICATE VISUAL TREAT DUBBED THE DIAMOND SCREEN

BY ARCHANA AITHAL ROSE

Lauded as the Lady Gaga of the L design world, Dutch dignitary Marcel Wanders has built his name on his sophisticated eye and bold choices. With more than 1,900 projects under his belt, he’s partnered with many of the world’s leading names, from top-end brands like Baccarat and Christofle to travel and hospitality powerhouses such as KLM and Hyatt. He was recently tapped by Louis Vuitton to create a state-of-the-art room divider for the French fashion house’s hallowed Objets Nomade collec-tion. The ornate, semi-transparent partition is a masterpiece in leathercraft, inspired by the house’s storied monogram motif and canework that once bedecked the LV trunks of yore. Each intricate module features eight pieces of Nomade leather straps that are held together by shiny brass clips, a nod to the house’s iconic handbag clasps. The facade – composed of 60 modules in total – rests on a grand black marble base, creating a wonderful alchemy of light and shadow.
