MOVING AT 21 FROM AUSTRALIA TO THE U.S., JEN JONES IS SMOOTHNESS AND SIZZLE IN THE DJ BOOTH AND OUT
BY TIA KIM
BORN AND RAISED: Melbourne, Australia
MUSICAL SEEDS: The youngest of three, Jones grew up in a house “filled with music.” Her brother worked as a DJ, her sister in a record store, and her dad played bass. She began recording mix tapes on a cassette player, and once burned a CD so that she could play it for the entire school cafeteria.
BIG BREAK: At 21, she left her hometown for Phoenix Arizona and signed with music label and DJ/performing artist company, Skam Artist… after three failed attempts.
NOTABLE GIGS: In 2016, she was chosen as one of COPA America’s touring DJs, which led to her being selected to spin at parties for the professional soccer club, Colorado Rapids. She’s also DJ’d exclusive shows for Skylar Grey, the Superbowl, and the Soundwave Festival (alongside Porter Robinson), and done support spots for NERVO, Havana Brown, The Crystal Method, and Chuckie. Most recently, she completed a multi-night gig at Aspen’s Winter X Games in January
RESIDENCIES: Maya Day & Nightclub and Degree270 Nightclub (Scottsdale), and Talking Stick Resort Phoenix.
PREFERRED EQUIPMENT: Technics 1200 Turntables (“1210s are acceptable, too”) or Pioneer CDJ 2000s or CDJ 900s, along with a Pioneer DJM 800 or DJM 900 mixer.
