MERCEDES-AMG’S NEW GLS 63 LIMITED EDITION TURNS BRUTE STRENGTH INTO AN ART FORM: THINK A 603-HORSEPOWER SYMPHONY WRAPPED IN ICE-COLD ATTITUDE

BY EVAN MONROE

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Arctic Silver Edition is not merely an ultra-luxe SUV it’s a study in composure under pressure. A special edition from Affalterbach’s in-house atelier, it takes AMG’s most formidable family hauler and dresses it in bespoke Cirrus Silver Magno paint, a f inish so luminous it feels carved from frozen light. Beneath that shimmer lies a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine paired with a 48-volt hybrid system, which churn out a meaty 603 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft. of torque. The result? A three-row SUV that launches from 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds, all while its passengers lounge in supreme comfort.

AMG calls this special edition “performance with poise,” and that ethos extends to every inch. On the exterior, subtle, thoughtfully placed red and black contrasting pop against the icy finish, including high-rolling 23-inch AMG multi-spoke forged wheels in matte black with moody red rim flanges. The cardinal-tinted highlights continue with bright red AMG brake calipers on both the front and rear axles, a nod to the SUV’s corner-shredding performance prowess. Dark chrome tailpipe trims, matte black roof rails, and heat-insulating tinted glass only add to the GLS’ attitude of rapacious restraint. Open the doors, however, and subtlety flies out the window. The interior is cloaked in black and red nappa leather upholstery, from the signature flat-bottom steering wheel to the diamond-quilted performance seats that cradle passengers as they slice through turns with aplomb. Even the deep-pile floor mats feature a bright red AMG logo on black leather.

The drive is an exercise in contrasts: a 6,000-pound SUV that moves with the reflexes of a hungry sports coupe. AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, active roll stabilization, and rear-axle steering transform the Arctic Silver Edition from Autobahn missile to calm coastal cruiser at will. Toggle Sport+ mode, and the soundtrack deepens a muscular growl perfectly balanced by the whisper of insulated luxury.

Limited to just 450 examples world wide. Price TBA, though the standard GLS starts at $151,000.
