More beautiful vistas and the charmingly amusing company of Mr. Levy await.

INVINCIBLE, SEASON 2, PART 2

If you watched this animated series briefly without context, you might assume it was just another entry in the kind of superhero cartoon (see: Batman, Justice League, X-Men) one would expect on Cartoon Network. Yet season one of Invincible, which follows a teenage boy coming to terms with his awesome super-abilities, ended with a twist dark enough to make The Boys (also on Amazon) blush. Don’t let the look fool you: this anime packs a real emotional punch.

GIRLS5EVA, SEASON 3

NETFLIX

This endlessly amusing tale of four middle-aged women revisiting the bubblegum band that once made them famous is back. Surprisingly canceled by Netflix after its second season, the much-celebrated sitcom has found a new home on Peacock. Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, and Renee Elise Goldsberry (as the titular band members) wring real humanity and pathos out of what could’ve been stock characters. A comedy must-watch.

Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr & Mrs Smith, Edge of Tomorrow) helms this remake of the brilliantly cheesy ‘80s actioner about a world class bouncer and the trouble he f inds when he attempts to tame the patrons of the rowdiest dive bar on earth. The sequel tweaks things a bit by making Jake Gyllenhaal an ex-MMA fighter, but the glue of the story remains: a perfectly muscular man throws hands with the most dangerous drunks the Florida Keys has to offer. Connor MacGregor plays his intimidating arch enemy.

This prestige-scented docu-drama recounts the real life story of the BBC journalists breaking the appalling truth behind Prince Andrew and his too-close-for-royal comfort relationship with sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein. The infamous interview the BBC conducted with Prince Andrew (available in its entirety on Youtube) in 2019 ranks highly among the most uncomfortable and damning TV interviews in history. The outstanding cast includes Gillian Anderson (as Emily Maitlis), Keeley Hawes (as Amanda Thirsk), Billie Piper (as McAlister), and Rufus Sewell (as Prince Andrew).

 REBEL MOON PART 2: THE SCARGIVER

OK, so part 1 of Zach Snyder’s space epic was a bit of disappointment for many. (It was adapted from a script originally intended for a Star Wars movie that never happened, and it was obvious.) That may be why it bombed with critics (22% on Rotten Tomatoes). However, the viewing numbers (and the confidence in Snyder’s filmmaking acumen) led Netflix to green light this sequel about a legendary warrior defending her home world from unfathomably evil forces intent on destruction. Fingers crossed for an exciting rebound in part 2.*
