ALL HAIL THE LIPS
The lips are particularly sensitive to winter’s wrath. The constant exposure to dry air indoor and out and wind beating can leave them red, flaked, and screaming for hydration. Answer the call with liberal application of ointment based lip balms as they work to heal the cracks and splits caused by dryness. Exfoliation is also key; once or twice a week, use a gentle DIY exfoliator at bedtime to wash away dead skin cells and unearth glowing, radiant lips. A simple mixture of one tablespoon coconut oil, two tablespoons brown sugar, and one tablespoon honey will do the trick just remember to moisturize after.

AT FIRST BRIGHT
Healthy, hydrated skin provides the perfect base for creative makeup, and even though our usual holiday parties and year-end celebrations might be on hiatus until next year, there’s still a place for festive holiday artistry even if it’s merely for the sake of it. Start with an airbrushed foundation (while this can be performed at home, many salons offer airbrushed services for a flawless finish) and follow with bright, bold colors on the eyes and warm highlighter on the cheeks. Because even in 2020, this is still the season of sparkle.

SKIN DEEP
Summer is typically a glorious time for skin. While it’s vital to take precautions to mitigate sun exposure and, of course, everyone’s skin type varies the humid and balmy air of the year’s warmest months often yields hydrated, clear complexions. But as the temperatures drop, it’s time to make some skincare changes. Winter brings a legion of dehydrating and chapping weapons; harsh winds, cold and dry air, and stark variations in temperature (think moving from the frosty air to the heated indoors) are doing their best to desiccate the body’s largest organ. Luckily, there are ample ways to fight back. Start by sleeping with a humidifier by your bed at night to put moisture back in your skin while you sleep. Tweak your skincare regimen; in the summer, you might use a gel or foaming cleanser and a light moisturizer, but that might not cut it once the subzero winds set in. Switch to a cream-based cleanser and follow with a hydrating serum layered under a cream-based moisturizer. And even on the dreariest of days, don’t neglect your SPF.
