The newest member of the Indian vintage line debuts classic good looks with sinister styling, plus plenty of pep to cruise into 2021 with swagger
BY EVAN MONROE
Indian’s old school, classic American series of Vintage cruisers welcomes a new, maverick member of the pack in 2021. A proud black sheep, the Vintage Dark Horse shares many of the same throwback features as its stable mates a genuine leather saddle and saddlebags with fringe, for instance but with a handful of notable differences, namely the stealthy, all blacked out appearance. Nearly every surface of the bike was given the midnight treatment, from the mirrors to the exhaust and engine cases. Deviating from the standard Vintage line, the Dark Horse trades the triple headlights and windshield for a retro single headlight with a black nacelle.
It’s a ready horse 786 pounds (with a full tank) and powered by Indian’s flagship Thunder Stroke 111 V-twin engine that cranks out 92 ponies and 119 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm. It’s anchored by a lightweight cast-aluminum frame that makes quick work of corners, so the bike is certainly city ready, but with a comfortable seat height, plush saddle, and full length footboards, the versatile machine is also game for light touring.
Standard equipment includes Rear Cylinder Deactivation system (designed to reduce engine and exhaust heat to the rider), a trio of selectable ride modes, cruise control, keyless ignition, tire pressure monitor, and ABS. Cold weather goodies like heated handgrips and a Clima Command saddle with heating and cooling controls are optional. A catalog of accessories offers the ability to personalize this night rider, but the only color option is under Black Smoke.
