LEGENDARY LOOKS

Ever since assuming his post as creative director of the Italian luxury brand Max Mara, British designer Ian Griffith has honored the vision of founder Achille Maramotti, turning groundbreaking ideas into garments that women will not only covet but want to live in. For the house’s Fall-Winter 2024 collection, Griffith drew inspiration from Émelie du Châtelet, a French philosopher and mathematician from the 18th century, a kinetic spirit with an influential narrative. But though it paid homage to the past with military capes and rich brocades, the collection still felt fresh and modern with lots of cozy, layering looks. Chunky combat boots were styled with oversized teddy coats, and iconic dresses were structured with leather bustier belts for dramatic proportions. As expected, Max Mara’s signature hue, camel, remained a constant throughout the collection, treated this time with a fresh dose of texture and richness. Griffith’s contemporary approach, executed with surgical precision, showed to his creative vision: clothing for today, but with a touch of theatrics. maxmara.com
